Background:

After obtaining a PhD at the Trinity College of Dublin with a thesis on the potential of bioenergy crop Miscanthus to sequester carbon in the soil, Dr Dondini joined the Environmental Modelling Group at the University of Aberdeen as a Post-doctoral Researcher. Marta’s research interests involve investigating how carbon storage in soils will be altered by land use change to bioenergy plantations and in partitioning soil into fractions that match theoretical pools in soil C models.

Role in MAGLUE:

Within WP2, Dr Dondini is responsible for testing and parameterising the ECOSSE model to better simulate different management impacts on GHG emissions, to improve simulation of GHG hotspots for non-UK feedstocks and to run the improved model to simulate GHG emissions from UK feedstocks and from non-UK feedstocks from North America, Southeast Asia and South America. The development work will involve testing the ECOSSE model against GHG emissions at different sites/management regimes from WP1.
