Research background: Dr Slade is a lecturer and senior member of Imperial’s Centre for Energy Policy and Technology. This research group is an internationally recognised centre for energy and environmental research that focusses on techno-economic, environmental and policy issues related to the use of biomass energy for transport, electricity and heat applications. Raphael has extensive experience leading sustainability analysis of biomass and bioenergy supply chains for FP7 projects including EUROBIOREF, AQUAFUELS and the New Improvements in Lignocellulosic Ethanol (NILE) project. He is also co-investigator for the Supergen Bioenergy I “Whole Systems” (SiM) project on which he is leading work on Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and modelling supply chain implementation. He also led the recent UKERC-funded Technology and Policy Analysis project “Energy from Biomass: quantifying the global resource”.
Within MAGLUE, Dr Slade is leading Work Package 4, with four aims. For Work package 4, Dr Slade will lead the evaluation of existing datasets. Raphael will also lead on the review of opportunities to fill data gaps incorporating WP1 and WP2 outputs or developing revised system boundaries to better reflect on-the-ground agricultural practice. WP4 will also include developing revised datasets to be implemented within the SiM value chain modelling environment and investigation of the implications of running this model using improved data.
